If customs agents ruin your luggage, is there anything you can do about it?

I loaned a vintage suitcase to my husband to transport a pricey video camera from America to Europe. It is the old fashioned “hard shell” type, with a satin liner on the inside.
Apparently, when customs agents were searching it, they sliced open the satin liner on the insides of the suitcase.
I am assuming that there’s nothing to do about it now, but I would like to know, as this was a beautiful piece of luggage in perfect condition!

I recently purchased two vintage suitcases… without peeking inside. I won’t make that mistake again. Inside one of the suitcases is what appears to be a rather large BLOOD stain. Yikes! My question is this: where do I go to have the interior of a suitcase relined?

How do I get the old/musty/moldy/mildew smell out of my vintage suitcase?

I just bought this vintage suitcase at a garage sale and it has the nastiest old moldy/musty smell to it that I can’t get out. I’ve tried baking soda and I let it air out, but it didn’t work. I really like this suitcase and want to use it, but I am allergic to mold and don’t want the smell all over my clothing and in my shoes and other stuff I put in there. Help please?!

How can I get rid of a horrible smell in a small vintage suitcase??

My friend recently got me this vintage suitcase and it’s adorable, but the smell inside makes me want to vomit. I sprayed febreze in it, sprayed lysol at another time, and now I just threw in some fabric softeners. The fabric softeners covered up the smell for a while, but I can still smell that strange odor underneath it all.

Any suggestions as how I could get the smell out and not just cover it up??

Should I lock a hard case vintage suitcase or tie it ?

I have a vintage suitcase (70’s, perfect condition) that I plan on using on traveling this month from LAX – to WA. The locks (with keys) work perfectly, however I cannot get a TSA approved lock because there’s nowhere to put it. I was considering some sort of belt or strap around the shell but I’m still wary of just sending it out unlocked. Should I go this route? Please help!

I wouldn’t want to imagine what would happen to my suitcase if they couldn’t pry it open.

It is a 1956 (I think) Samsonite Ultralite suitcase. Overall it’s in great condition, but the outside is pretty scuffed up. Lock and snaps still work great, and it even has the key with the Samsonite logo imprinted on it. The inside is in excellent condition, original straps, buckles, etc. Has Schwayder Bros. Denver Style 7532 fabric tag. Just came across it, and I’m pretty sure it’s the original Samsonite luggage piece from 1956. Does anyone know anything about these pieces, or there value?

Okay, so I was out yard sale-ing today and I found this amazing near perfect condition vintage suitcase. It is beautiful and I couldn’t leave with out it… I didn’t leave with out it. The problem now arises that I have nothing to do with it. I have heard that there are a lot of cute crafty things that you can do with pieces like this one, I just can’t seem to find any ideas.
