How To Replace The Locks On Vintage Suitcase?

I have some old suitcases and I would like the option of locking them for storage (I have roommates), but since I bought them all at vintage shoppes I am not the original owner. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. Take them to a locksmith and ask whether he can make a key for them if they already have a lock. Some of my leather antique suitcases had a rather common key which my locksmith actually had and they worked in a big box of old keys he had. I think he charged me 50 cents for those. On the ones that he didn’t have keys that matched, he had locks with keys that did and I think they were like around 10 bucks to install. Go to a guy like mine who has been in business for decades and has a brick and mortar shop (not the mobile type), they tend to have pieces for the old stuff.
